Bloomsbury Natural Capital Limited is a newly established Development Capital Investor.

“The ocean holds tremendous opportunities for boosting jobs and the economy while at the same time helping and healing the planet.”

Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway and Co-Chair of the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy

Our Purpose

Bloomsbury Natural Capital Limited (‘BNC’) has been set up to invest in companies which manage natural systems in a sustainable or regenerative way, that will sequester carbon profitably in the course of their businesses.

Our Belief

Bloomsbury’s Directors believe that such businesses will make above normal rates of return. The reasoning behind that belief is based on the following assumptions:

Natural capital (the world’s stocks of natural assets) which include geology, soil, air, water and all living things, underpins both society and the economy, but is being poorly managed.

The economic value of Natural Capital is increasingly recognised, but it is heavily undervalued financially.

“The economic value of forests is vast – one estimate suggests that the total value of intact forests and their ecosystem services is up to $150 trillion, around double the value of global stock markets.”

World Economic Forum / Boston Consulting Group

Society, Policies and Regulations are now changing to reflect the importance of maintaining natural systems.

The Risks resulting from poor natural capital management are already starting to be reflected in corporate valuation.

Innovation in improving our management of natural capital creates opportunities which will have both societal & commercial benefits.

BNC has been established to invest in commercially profitable innovation in this area.
